One-Way In, Same-Way Out

Published on November 12th, 2009no comments

Yamba LighthouseA Yamba holiday does involve using the Pacific Highway to arrive and depart but that’s the only time you need to run the risk on the busy, dangerous, uninteresting, poorly maintained  so-called Highway No 1.

Yamba Road is your one-way-in, same-way-out holiday access to Australia’s No 1 town with a world’s best climate, no traffic lights, no busy roads, no boat ramp queues, no full car parks and no road & river rage.

A Yamba holiday, 14kms east of the Pacific Highway between Grafton and Ballina offers a package deal of the natural wonders and recreational opportunities of the Clarence River, Pacific Ocean and Yuraygir National Park

You can also can also enjoy shops, clubs, headlands, parks, pictures, skate park, ovals, fishing spots, restaurants, pubs, golf, bowls, whale and dolphin watching, a new indoor sports centre and so on.

A Yamba holiday gets you off the Pacific Highway with no need to return until you leave.  And your one-way-in, same-way-out Yamba Road access has no traffic lights, great river views, no roadworks, no stop/go signs and takes you right into town with only three roundabouts to negotiate.

Yamba’s Perfect Prawn

Published on November 3rd, 2009no comments

Yamba's Prawn TrawlersBallina has a big prawn tourist attraction but it’s the Yamba prawn, from small pre-schoolies to man eating kings, that provides the best raw and cooked crustacean culinary treat.

I’ve had big and small, cheap and dear, fresh and frozen, firm and soft, tasty and bland, prawns in my 51 years of enthusiastic consumption but only a Yamba prawn delivers the best in quality, quantity and price.

Yamba prawn trawlers, a tourist attraction along with their catches, trawl the river, lake and ocean mostly at night.  By early next morning their catches are for sale in fish shops, other outlets and by lunchtime on the menu at our many eateries.

There is nothing better than a Yamba prawn so it pays to have the perfect technique before facing up to a handful of mates or family aiming to get a feed out of 2kg of schoolies.

You must practice and perfect the 4 action Yamba prawn peeling technique which is:

1. Remove head

2. Use thumb to peel of legs and skin

3. Squeeze tail

4. Eat.

If you’re in a multi competitor Yamba prawn peeling event and lack the above technique and speed you’ll get a few prawns but not enough for a feed and usually have to solo peel another .5kg.

Yamba prawns are priced from $6 to $30 depending on size, supply and season.

Take an Elders Yamba holiday and see ocean trawlers moored at the marina, crossing The Clarence River bar for a night’s work from 5.30pm, returning across the bar next morning from 6am and then sample their Yamba prawn catch at your leisure.  Lyn, Angela and Lisa are all holiday specialist and would be happy to arrange your next holiday in Yamba & Angourie.  You can view a full list of holiday accommodation online or contact the office on 02 6646 2321.

While in Yamba you can also enjoy the best climate in the world at Australia’s No I town as well as shops, clubs, beaches, headlands, parks, pictures, skate park, ovals, fishing spots, restaurants, pubs, golf, bowls etc
